As I center my essay around music I find myself using Bob Dylan as and example in my essay a few times. I started talking about how most of the world percieved Bob Dylan as uncool during his prime in the early 1960’s. He dressed in a lot of clothes inspired by Woody Guthrie, very lowly and country, not a very popular style in the ‘60’s. Sleek and conservative clothing in the “Mad Men” days was very popular. Another big factor I am disscussing is his style of music. His famous hit Blowin’ in the Wind was taken from a traditional slave song called “No More Action Block”. This goes back to what we have read in Cool Rules and discussed in class about how black people possibly started this whole idea of “Cool” and how white people, like Bob Dylan, want to keep chasing after this idea and copying. Maybe Bob Dylan is just chasing after this idea like all other white people and is not original in his coolness. A “poser” lets say. Stay tuned.
